The skunk was found on South Roosevelt Avenue, officials said.

Raccoons, skunks, foxes, woodchucks and stray cats are among the most common carriers of the virus, health officials said.

Local residents are warned to stay away from stray animals and keep household pets updated on all licenses and vaccines.

Health officials also remind residents to keep garbage in a container with a tight lid to avoid attracting animals.

“If you know of any stray cats, or dogs or any other animal in the area acting strangely, please contact Parsippany Animal Control at 973-263-7083.”
